The Tigers Fight Hard at Subiaco - AFL 2006 -

Tigers brave in Defeat against Fremantle, the Tigers were up by a couple of goals 12 minutes into the last quarter before Fremantle turned on the heat and kicked four goals within the last ten minutes to win by eleven points.
The Tigers haven't won in Subiaco since 2001, the best players were :
Mark Coughlan with 35 possessions, Shane Tuck (28 touches), Patrick Bowden (24) and Joel Bowden (23) .

The Coach Said :

Richmond coach Terry Wallace ."This lot was up for grabs with five minutes to go, and that was really disappointing," he said."I just thought we certainly had our opportunities … with six-and-a-half minutes to go and you're over two kicks in front, (you would think) you would be able to hang on from there."In the last quarter we had some blokes who couldn't get hold of the footy. I think our kick numbers went down almost half what they (were) in the early half of the game and then just made some poor decisions … some poor choices with the footy."

Richmond (Tigers) Basketball Tactics Pay Off against Adelaide (Crows) - AFL 2006 -

Richmond has stunned prohibitive favourite Adelaide 10.9 (69) to 9.12 (66) at Telstra Dome on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that will surely draw a lot of discussion in the coming week, the Tigers took the ultra-defensive, possession game to new heights (or depths depending on your perspective) and played it to perfection as they frustrated the Crows out of the contest.

Richmond coach Terry Wallace has made light of Kevin Sheedy's "basketball crap" jibe by jiving into his regular Tuesday media conference twirling a basketball on his finger to the accompaniment of the Harlem Globetrotters' signature tune, 'Sweet Georgia Brown'.

Wallace said he didn’t take personally Sheedy's curt criticism of the Tigers' 'keepings-off' tactics which helped the club to secure a famous victory over Adelaide at Telstra Dome on Saturday."You can play that basketball crap all the time … you win four points, but you never go anywhere," Sheedy replied when asked if the Bombers should have played 'keepings-off' against West Coast on Sunday.

RICHMOND: 3.0 6.3 7.7 10.9 (69)
ADELAIDE: 2.4 3.6 4.8 9.12 (66)

Richmond will take the win - AFL Blog 2006

Terry Wallace admits the Tigers' error-ridden eight-point win over Carlton was one of his toughest days at the office as a coach, but he was happy to walk away from the MCG with the premiership points nonetheless.

"It was extremely tough - I've got to say that … I can't recall (a game) that was much more difficult just from the fact that there were so many wasted opportunities, so much opportunity to ice a game and we just kept leaving the door open," Wallace said after the match.

Richmond was winless and life did not look bright at Punt Road a week ago, but things turn quickly in football and the Tigers now have two wins on the board after accounting for Carlton by eight points in an error-riddled match at the MCG on Friday night.

The Blues started well in a free-flowing opening quarter for a 19-point advantage at the first change, however the Tigers controlled the game from thereon, finding the lead in the third quarter despite some inaccuracy in front of goal before holding off a late Carlton challenge for a 12.20 (92) to 11.18 (84) victory.

Too classy for Bret Thornton and too nimble for Lance Whitnall, Matthew Richardson, despite being guilty of poor kicking with 3.5, was outstanding for the Tigers, plucking 12 marks in a best-on-ground performance.

He complemented the work further up the field by Joel Bowden, who set up numerous attacks from defence with his 25 possessions, and Andrew Raines with 23, while Kane Johnson kept Carlton playmaker Nick Stevens to a relatively low 19 touches.

RICHMOND: 2.3, 7.12, 11.15, 12.20 (92)
CARLTON: 5.4, 8.7, 9.13, 11.18 (84)

GOALS – Richmond: Richardson 3, Pettifer 2, Tivendale 2, Krakouer 2, Hyde 2,
BEST – Richmond: Richardson, Pettifer, Hyde, Raines, Tuck, Coughlan, J Bowden
